Architects and builders seeking a long-lasting, eco-conscious alternative to traditional timber are turning to thermally modified wood. Through a high-heat, chemical-free process, this advanced material is engineered for exceptional durability, dimensional stability, and decades of reliable performance. Sourced from responsibly managed forests and transformed without harmful chemicals, thermally modified wood delivers natural beauty, reduced maintenance, and a lower environmental footprint.
With Fisher’s premium thermally modified wood product lines Abodo® and Imbue™, you can specify a cladding or soffit solution designed to stand the test of time—sustainably.
Thermal modification removes sugars and extractives, rendering the wood biologically inert. The result is a highly durable material with a service life exceeding 30 years in above-ground cladding applications.
Thermally modified wood experiences up to 90% less swelling and shrinkage, reducing the risk of warping, cupping, and movement in variable climates—ideal for façades that need to stay straight and true.
The process creates a consistent, warm brown tone throughout each board, which can be preserved with a UV-stable finish or left to gracefully weather into a silvery-grey patina—both options offering timeless visual appeal.
Thanks to its reduced moisture content and inherent resistance to decay, thermally modified wood requires minimal upkeep. Many projects retain their integrity and beauty for years with only occasional touch-ups.
Free from chemical preservatives or fungicides, thermally modified wood is safe, fully recyclable, and typically sourced from responsibly managed forests. Many products carry certifications such as FSC® and Declare Red List Free, aligning with today’s sustainable building standards.
Fisher carefully selected Abodo® and Imbue™ for their alignment with our values of sustainability, durability, and architectural integrity. Both cladding lines are made from thermally modified radiata pine sourced from certified, rapidly renewable forests and offer exceptional dimensional stability.
Pre-finished in Canada by Fisher, these products are available in a wide range of natural tones and modern profiles. With FSC® certification and long-term performance built in, Abodo and Imbue are ideal choices for projects that demand both beauty and environmental responsibility.
